Autumn 1
This September, the children of Year 1 walked through the doors all excited ready to start a new year in school. We have focused on learning lots about ourselves and looked at how we feel and how we can be the best version of ourselves!
So far we have done lots of exciting things such as; making pumpkin soup, drawing portraits of ourselves, fruit kebab making, using desktop computers, gymnastics and a walk around our local community to observe different houses – we also looked for signs of Autumn! We have had so much fun!
Autumn 2
Autumn 2’s unit of work is called – “Ticket to ride!” and we are looking at everything around the world. We will be comparing Christmas and how it is celebrated in England compared to Australia! We will also be looking at the continents of the Earth and the North and South Pole! We will celebrate Bonfire night, Diwali and Remembrance Day as well as look forward to getting ready for Christmas. We have lots of exciting things to look forward to in Year 1 to end 2021!

In Spring 1 we will have lots of new learning opportunities to get our teeth into. Our English will concentrate on the story of Little Red Riding Hood, where we will be gather adjectives, adverbs and create our own super sentences. we will even act out the story in our local woods, so exciting! Maths will see us revisit place value and look at numbers to 50 and uses new maths equipment to aid our learning. In history we will learning all about toys, comparing new and old toys, looking at toys from different decades and in PE we will even take part in a yoga story session about toys in a museum. We will even be looking at the artist Rob Biddulph and draw our own toys. In design technology we will be making some paper toys and improving our cutting skills. In PHSE we will be talking about our feelings and take part in some mental health week activities and ICT internet safety.

Even though it is a short term, we will be starting off with some fun things to do such as making our own pancakes in Design technology. In science we will continue to look at animals and habitats and make our own dinosaur habitat connected to our history work on dinosaurs – roar!!!! We cant wait to make our own fossils! In English we will finish off our Little Red Riding Hood story writing and start a toys non- fiction unit of work, making use all our history knowledge to inspire our writing. In PHSE we are going to be working on following rules, having respect for others and being kind to others. In art we are going to be improving our painting skills using different brush techniques and we will look at another artist. We can’t wait for World Book day and the Cadishead Easter Egg Competition.
